    So, Harbor Freight sells their "Chinese Special" car battery solar panel battery maintainer for ~$15 USD (SKUs: 64251, 44768, 68692, 62449). It's rated 24V at 1.5W. While 24v is a _bit_ of a pain (I like my sealed lead acid batteries), 60mA is NOT a whole lot, it would probably still manage to charge a small 12v sealed lead acid battery somewhat slowly. You'll also need a dropping resistor of ~160 ohms. Alright, so what about DIYing this with solar garden lights? If the rough math I did is correct, you'll need 36 of them (12 in series, 3 in parallel). Each one does ~2V at 20mA and they're about $1.25 USD a pop where I live, which means about _$50 USD._ Yeah. Although, if you config them as 6 in series and 6 in parallel you won't need the dropping resistor. Granted, 2V 20mA panels off AliExpress are probably much cheaper, but then you have shipping, and 12V panels at ~1W are probably cheaper too. So, not cost effective! Though if you already have these things, why not?

    For the number of videos you have on here, you've done really well. Not speaking to the difficulty level or quality as I haven't watched them but having 4k subs with as few videos as you have, I thihk puts you in a statistically great place. Bravo. Since you've not made 1000 videos on inventing, just change an approach, take a break, or do whatever for yourself. Doesn't matter really as time will go on and you'll want to look back on the work you've done, whether video or not and ideally see some sort of personal growth. Don't worry so much about whether the talking persona starts to make the video artificial. Just shoot more takes, get more comfortable, remember you're telling a story, or instructing. Just make it effective for the viewers. That's it. How you feel about it when you watch it is always gonna be a little awkward. You do realize there are a LOT of actors out there who never watch their own shows or movies. They don't like it and that's kinda how it goes. So consider that when you're not feeling authentic. Just get the information or story out the way people can understand, perhaps be entertained enough to keep watching all the way through, and much past that is extra really.

    How do you think something like this would work to mount on top of a drone? Have a dji mini 2 and was thinking of a way to make a row of 3 or 4 mini panels and somehow get a USB c charger connected from the panels to connect to the drones port to see if it'll keep charging as it's running

    • @AlansInventions

      Hey that's a pretty good idea! I don't think these panels would be the right solution though. Mainly the efficiency vs the weight and power output. I have seen other youtubers make fixed wing solar RC aircraft, but not a drone. Although I haven't specifically looked.

    • @AlansInventions
      @AlansInventions 6 місяців тому

      It depends on the input voltage and current range, as long as you are within those limits you should be okay. There is some negative effects to both series and parallel. That's if the input levels aren't the same, but for the most part usually okay for small setups.

    Been there, done that. It's a poor strategy. The connections to the solar panel are done with some specialist technique. Once the original wire is pulled off its virtually impossible to solder new wire back on. The 'Transistor' is not a transistor but a voltage boost ic. Better to get a decent big solar panel. here in the UK, the yield from solar panels is pretty hopeless,.

    I started in November 2021 with four hundred watts of panels and four marine batteries from Autozone. Now I have sixteen 100 watts panels and twenty batteries. I used a 24 volts Aims Power inverter charger. I added a 600 watts wind generator in March. I have enough power out here in the barn now. I used two panels to make around 34-41 volts coming in because the 4215 BN charge controller is 2% more efficient on 33 volts than it is at 63. So I had to overpanel because of the distance to the panels. I made some frames out of square tubing, two panels in each. Sometimes I have to bring some of them in because of hail. I didn't mount the panels on the barn, and last night I was glad of it. Lightning hit the barn. I have eight of them outside leaning on the barn facing East. Four on rhe West side, and four that I kind of move around on a longer cable. I put those in the barn last night. It storms a lot here, so they're safer like I have them. When I started, I didn't know much, so I was buying the 85 amp hours battery and saving for the inverter. One went bad so I have seven of those, and thirteen 105 amps ones. I replaced the bad one with a bigger one. My system works pretty well with twenty. I have 977 amp hours @ 24 volts. This barn actually has grid power but its so far from the pole that it can only run a light bulb 💡, so that's the only thing I have on grid, and I hardly ever use it.
